'It is our mission to make surplus and recycled medical supplies, durable medical equipment and related items/activities available to needy populations around the world in order to improve the health and quality of life of the recipients and to empower the recipients to live with increased dignity, independence, and hope.'

Sharing Resources Worldwide was founded in 2002 by two Registered Nurses, Lisa Fernandez and Mary Dowling, working in the Madison Wisconsin area. Lisa had several years experience with the wheelchair project and Mary was a veteran of several medical/surgical missions and shipping supplies and equipment since 1993. In 2002 they combined forces and formed Sharing Resources Worldwide, a non-profit (501 (c) 3 organization) all volunteer organization.

The focus of SRW is:
Shipping medical supplies and equipment to need-identified areas around the world.
The Wisconsin/Nicaragua Wheelchair Project.
Medical missions to needy areas around the world with local medical volunteers.
Identifying and assisting local organizations/groups that we can assist with appropriate items donated to our program.

SRW’s medical missions and eye glass missions (2-3/year) are made up of qualified volunteer medical professionals who pay their own expenses to travel with our teams and work closely with local medical personnel and community volunteers in other countries to deliver surgical care to children under the age of 18. There is zero cost to the person receiving the services.

Since our foundation in 2002 over 1000 wheelchairs have been distributed in Nicaragua and many other countries. The Wisconsin Nicaragua Wheelchair Program in Matagalpa, Nicaragua provides a full service shop where wheelchairs can be distributed, repaired, and fitted for local individuals free of charge.
